WienWein – its members are six rather different characters who have joined together to fight on behalf of Viennese wine for many years. Six personalities with various contrasting strengths, but one great common passion that unites them: leading Viennese wine and Austria’s winegrowing region Wien into a brilliant future.

Some 400 years of family tradition, nature-conscious viticulture and innovative sprit provide the cornerstones upon which the Christ estate is built. Characterised by uncommon enthusiasm, dedicated winegrower Rainer Christ cultivates vineyards primarily on Vienna’s Bisamberg.
In 2005 the estate in Jedlersdorf was renovated & expanded; parts of the old building were carefully restored, while a stylish & modern architecture was created featuring a blend of natural stone, wood & concrete. Weingut Christ cultivates a legacy of first-class vineyard sites, some of which are growing very old vines. Rainer Christ loves wines with structure & finesse; Grüner Veltliner & Wiener Gemischter Satz are his marquee players.

Weingut Mayer in Vienna-Heiligenstadt can trace its origins all the way back to the year 1683. In 2007 the estate became the property of businessman and passionate wine lover Hans Schmid. From that moment, Weingut Mayer began an ascent in quality & regard that borders on the meteoric.
Gerhard J. Lobner has been responsible for Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz as general manager for nearly fifteen years. With each successive vintage, he gets the best from traditional vineyard sites such as »Preussen« or »Langteufel« on the Nussberg, and creates wines in the loveliest Viennese style. In focus: Wiener Gemischter Satz. The wines from Mayer am Pfarrplatz are brilliant in expression, show invigorating acidity & precise aromas – and are therefore extremely popular and highly sought-after, not only throughout Austria, but internationally as well.

Weingut Wien Cobenzl can look back upon an eventful history, one that’s quite rich in tradition, since the first wine was produced here in the 13th century. The city of Vienna acquired the estate in 1907 and has been enhancing the quality of the wines ever since.
General manager Thomas Podsednik has been involved in all aspects of wine production here for many years; his passion has led the estate to its place among the leading wine producers in the region. Individual vineyard sites such as Ried Seidenhaus or Ried Bellevue are among the best in the city, besides offering a wonderful view of the Danube metropolis. This vision is also part of the philosophy; it ranges from sustainable grape production to environmentally friendly power generation from solar energy, and to the estate’s own colonies of bees.

Internationally famed winegrower Fritz Wieninger can be duly praised as a pioneer of the new Viennese viticulture. It is thanks in large part to his vision & dedication that Viennese wine has become an item that finds itself in demand all over the world.
Fritz took over his parents’ hundred year-old wine estate at the foot of the Bisamberg in the 1980s. Right from the start, he introduced many innovations and turned the image of Viennese wine upside down. Today Weingut Wieninger stands for top-echelon wines from Vienna, and is better known further around the world than almost any other estate in Austria. Since 2008 Fritz Wieninger has also been cultivating his vineyards according to biodynamic guidelines and is a member of the winegrowers’ association »respekt-BIODYN«.

The records of the Edlmoser family estate reach all the way back to the year 1374. Sustainability and uncompromising standards of quality have always shaped the way people think & act at this estate, located in Mauer, down south in Vienna’s 23rd district.
Conditions in the southern foothills of the Vienna Woods in Mauer are completely different from those in the north of the city. On the Kadolzberg, the subsidence of the Vienna Basin has created loamy flysch sandstone soil – not easy to cultivate, but just the best for aroma & character in a wine. The dedicated & lively winegrower Michael Edlmoser succeeds year after year in bringing multi-layered, spicy wines into the bottle.

A different wind has been blowing through the vines here since winemaker Thomas Huber took over the helm at the family estate and in the tavern in 2012. Wine production has grown in importance and the wines have long since reached the top rung of the Viennese quality ladder.
Thomas is a man of action. In just a few years he has catapulted the Fuhrgassl-Huber estate into the premier league of Viennese wine. From autochthonous grape varieties such as in the Wiener Gemischter Satz or the Neuburger, harvested from the magnificent vineyard sites on the Nussberg and in Neustift, Huber brings a lot of feel & intuition to his vinifications, yielding wines that are very popular with younger audiences. The dynamic winemaker adds a great asset to the entire Viennese wine scene with his inspiring manner.
